Guidance to fees structure

The doctors operate as independent contractors, utilizing the clinic’s office facilities and support services to provide services to patients at their self-determined fees.

The fee guidance helps you understand expected fees and Medicare rebates. Note that Medicare rebates for skin procedures follow complex rules. We aim to simplify this, ensuring clarity on costs and quality care. Just like any business, we balance affordability with high standards of care.

WEEKDAY FEES : Monday to Friday

Weekend appointments (Sat / Sun / Public Holidays)

Standard Appointments (5-20min):

FEES: $142.45

Medicare Rebate: $53.65

Out-of-pocket Cost: $88.80

Long Appointments (20-40min):

FEES: $180.80

Medicare Rebate: $92.00

Out-of-pocket Cost: $88.80

Procedures fees

The Doctor will explain procedure out of pocket fees prior to planning the procedure.

For any procedures billed privately, you need to pay the entire amount, which includes both your out-of-pocket cost and the Medicare rebate you’ll receive. Medicare will send the rebate directly to your bank account. We can’t split the billing between you and Medicare. So, remember that the procedure’s rebate plus your out-of-pocket cost makes up the total fee.

For example, if a procedure costs $150 out of pocket and attracts a Medicare rebate of $284.50 for the item number, the total will be $150 + $284.50 = $434.50. You’ll pay $434.50, and Medicare will later give you $284.50, leaving you with an out-of-pocket cost of $150.

We appreciate full payment of fees on the day of consultation or the procedure day. Sometimes we may have to wait for the histology report to confirm the correct item number to claim. Fees are payable by cash, credit card or EFTPOS. The practice can put your Medicare rebate into your bank account on the same day through HICAPS machine provided you have a debit card and a valid Medicare card.

Thank you for entrusting us with your skin health – we’re here to support you on your journey to healthy and beautiful skin.

Bulk billing means that the practice is paid directly by Medicare, on behalf of the patient. This means that the amount paid for each medical service is the amount set by the Australian Government. Note that some consultations such as occupational and Workcover consultations are not covered at all by Medicare and will need to be paid for privately at the time of consultation.

We are a mixed billing practice. Some doctors within our practice may offer bulk billing service for full skin checks for new or existing patients. Please call the receptionist to clarify any charges when you make the booking. You will always be advised on the cost of the visit before you make the appointment. We do not charge for biopsy if you need to check for cancers including melanoma. We do not want to create financial barrier to have a health check that may save lives. Some services are bulk billed, including childhood immunisations, chronic disease care plans and Government funded health assessments.

Unfortunately, the amount set by the Government for a consultation is insufficient to cover the costs of providing a high-quality medical service We are a small local business and like any other small business, we need to cover some of our costs. We choose to use the best resources to service our patients to ensure patients have the best possible outcomes.

Because of the low value the Australian Government places on primary care and General Practitioners as discussed above, bulk billing clinics will often need to see more patients in an hour, often need patients to come back to get test results and may not be able to spend as much time addressing your medical needs.

At Burpengary East Medical Centre we value your time as much as ours. We aim to keep waiting times to a minimum, we offer same day appointments for urgent matters, we have an excellent recall and test result notification system so our patients do not need to return for follow up appointments unless medically necessary.
